Grief, Separation, and Loss

What is Grief?

Grief is the natural reaction to the experience of loss. While often associated with death, the loss of anything significant in our lives can trigger grief.

Grief counselling can play a vital role in your healing journey.

Feelings of grief often show up after a death, but it can be triggered by anything:

  • The loss of a loved one or pet
  • A difficult friend, family, or romantic relationship
  • Separation or divorce
  • Injury and accidents
  • Terminal illness
  • Caregiving
  • Losing a job or retiring
  • Infertility
  • Transitions associated with aging
  • Motor vehicle accident
  • Workplace trauma
  • Abuse or assault
  • Empty nesting

Symptoms of Grief

When we experience a loss or a profound life change, our entire world can be flipped upside down. Daily activities can feel unfamiliar, and small things can trigger waves of sadness, guilt, confusion, anger, or shame.
